The Women in Engineering Program in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin hosted more than 12,000 children, parents, and educators from cities across the state for its 18th annual Girl Day at UT Austin.
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) is an international event celebrated during Engineers Week annually, and WGI local event is filled with activities that help spark creativity, inspire future careers, and inform the youth about the importance of technical careers and how engineers and scientists can change the world for the better.
WGI was a proud participant at Girl Day 2020, hosting an event that was filled with activities to help spark creativity, inform the youth about the importance of technical careers, and teach them about how engineers and scientists can change the world for the better.
WGI's team of women from the Austin office organized and facilitated an interactive booth that was named "Hard Hats Protect Smart Heads". The activities that the team provided helped teach the participants about the importance of safety, and let them experience wearing the proper safety gear that WGI uses on all of our project sites.
In addition to the safety gear relay and puzzle activity, we also had an interactive photo frame and booth where participants (and their proud parents) could snap a photo to keep as a digital souvenir.
