Event Recap: 2025 DBIA Florida Region Annual Conference

WGI recently joined Florida’s leading design and construction professionals at the 2025 Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Florida Region Annual Conference, a premier gathering focused on driving innovation, collaboration, and excellence in design-build delivery. Over three days of panels, discussions, and networking, our team shared insights on Florida’s most transformative infrastructure projects and celebrated two WGI-led initiatives recognized with DBIA Merit Awards for outstanding achievement in design-build execution.

A Focus on Innovation and Collaboration

The DBIA Florida Region Annual Conference serves as a premier platform for sharing ideas that push the boundaries of design-build delivery. This year’s sessions emphasized collaboration, innovation, and the use of technology to enhance project outcomes across every stage of the design and construction process. Key conference themes included:
  • Advancing innovative delivery methods to improve project outcomes
  • Leveraging design-build for complex and high-impact infrastructure projects
  • Integrating emerging technologies such as virtual design and construction (VDC)
  • Celebrating projects that demonstrate excellence in execution and community impact

WGI was proud to participate in three panel discussions, where our experts shared valuable insights and best practices that continue to shape the future of design-build delivery in Florida:
  • DBIA Best Practices in Action: Clay County Bonded Transportation Program, Cathedral Oak Parkway - Walter Kloss, PE, and Carlos Campos, PE
  • Urban Mobility: How a Progressive Design-Build Strategy Accelerated AV Innovation: JTA’s Ultimate Urban Circulator, Bay Street Innovation Corridor - Keegan Larson, PE
  • Improving Project Outcomes with Virtual Design and Construction - Nicola Ianselli
Through these sessions, WGI demonstrated how our multidisciplinary teams apply DBIA principles to deliver complex, community-enhancing projects efficiently, collaboratively, and with measurable value.

Award-Winning Projects

The conference also spotlighted excellence across Florida’s design-build community, and WGI proudly took home two DBIA Merit Awards for outstanding project performance and innovation:
  • Clay County Bonded Transportation Program
A $140 million initiative addressing safety, congestion, and connectivity across six major roadway projects. By integrating multiple delivery methods, including design-build, CMAR, and design-bid-build, under a unified management framework, the program was delivered on time and within budget, dramatically improving mobility and safety for residents throughout Clay County.
  • JTA Ultimate Urban Circulator - Bay Street Innovation Corridor
The nation’s largest urban autonomous vehicle transit program, this transformative project redefines urban mobility through a progressive Design-Build-Operate-Maintain (DBOM) approach. WGI helped the Jacksonville Transportation Authority implement connected AV lanes, smart signals, 5G infrastructure, and the new Autonomous Innovation Center, setting a new benchmark for innovation and collaboration in public transportation.
