WGI is honored to announce that the Toby & Leon Cooperman Sinai Residences’ Phase II expansion in Boca Raton, FL, designed in partnership with the esteemed architectural firm Leo A Daly, has won the 2024 Merit Award of Excellence Residential from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Palm Beach.
This award celebrates our role as the project’s landscape architect, planner, and civil engineer, recognizing the innovative and thoughtful approach to creating a luxurious, wellness-focused environment for active seniors.
A Vision for Luxury and Wellness in Senior Living
The Sinai Residences expansion introduces 111 independent living apartments surrounded by vibrant, resort-style amenities crafted to support a sophisticated lifestyle and enhance social connections. Every design choice, from the lush plantings to accessible social spaces, was made to foster wellness, comfort, and community—a vision perfectly aligned with the serene architecture and warm tones of the new building. Our landscape design integrates seamlessly with the existing campus, creating a cohesive experience for residents guests alike.
Key Design Elements
The outdoor spaces at Sinai Residences combine luxury and functionality, providing an ideal setting for wellness and relaxation:- Resort-Style Pool Area - At the heart of the new expansion is a resort-style pool area, designed as a retreat for fitness, wellness, and relaxation. The modified L-shaped pool includes a covered lap pool for water aerobics and therapy sessions alongside a zero-entry free-swimming area. A spa complements this setup, offering a serene spot for rejuvenation. Lush tropical landscaping, featuring Medjool date palms and vibrant bromeliads, frames the pool deck to create an inviting, restorative oasis.
- Elegant Outdoor Dining Space - Adjacent to the pool deck lies an outdoor dining area that connects effortlessly to the independent living building’s indoor bar, encouraging residents to gather for meals and socialization. A tranquil fountain with stacked circular basins is the centerpiece, surrounded by cushioned armchairs and tables shaded by umbrellas, providing a cozy, stylish place for dining. Silver buttonwood trees and imperial bromeliads accentuate the space with natural beauty and texture.
- Welcoming Entrance and Courtyards - Residents and guests are welcomed by a thoughtfully designed entrance drop-off area, featuring a circular planting bed with colorful bromeliads and seasonal flowers. Inside the community, public and semi-private courtyards invite both interaction and reflection. The main courtyard includes a central fountain, shaded seating areas, and lush plantings to create a comfortable gathering space, while the semi-private courtyard, with its winding paths and Montgomery Palms, offers a peaceful retreat.
- Elevated Roof Terrace Courtyard - The elevated roof terrace is a unique feature, providing accessible green space with a variety of amenities tailored to senior residents. Here, winding pathways, raised planters, and synthetic turf create a relaxed and inviting setting for social gatherings or quiet moments of reflection. A shaded trellis with bar-top seating and a cozy fireplace adds warmth and charm, while drought-tolerant plants such as foxtail ferns, bromeliads, powderpuff Mimosa, Blue Porterweed, Dwarf Fakahatchee Grass, and tropical sage ensure year-round beauty with minimal maintenance.
